Getting started
-
Insert the battery
Press the release button on the battery compartment cover and slide it up, insert the battery, then close the cover. When the cover is mounted properly, the red marks on its base are no longer visible.[1]
-
Insert a microSD card
Footage is stored on a microSD card rated UHS-I Speed Grade 3. To remove the card, gently push it in so it partially ejects.[1]
-

Open the USB-C port cover and connect a USB-C charger with the included USB-C cable. DJI recommends a Power Delivery or PPS charger. The battery is full when the status LEDs turn off.[1]
-
Power on
Press and hold the Quick Switch button to turn the camera on or off.[1]
-
Connect to DJI Mimo
DJI requires activation in the DJI Mimo app the first time the camera is used. Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your phone, open DJI Mimo and follow the on-screen steps.[1]

The shutter button does nothing underwater
- The touchscreens cannot be used underwater, so use the physical buttons.
- Without the waterproof case, the Shutter/Record button is disabled automatically below 14 m. Come up shallower, or use the Osmo Action 60m Waterproof Case for deeper dives.

Care & safe use
After water use[1]
- Rinse the camera with clean water and let it dry naturally.
- Never use a hair dryer or hot air; it can rupture the microphone and breathable membranes and the camera will no longer be waterproof.
- The camera is not waterproof when used with the Osmo Action Lens Hood.
Cleaning[1]
- Clean the lens and lens cover with a lens cleaning pen, air blower or lens cloth.
- Wipe the battery and battery compartment with a clean, dry cloth.
- Keep the quick-release slots free of sand and dust before attaching a mount.
Battery[1]
- Use only official DJI batteries.
- Use the battery between -20 °C and 45 °C; above 45 °C there is a risk of fire. In cold conditions, fully charge it at room temperature first.
FAQ
Do I need a case to take the Osmo Action 4 underwater?
Not for depths up to 18 m, as long as the battery cover, USB-C port cover and lens cover are clean and firmly closed. For diving deeper (up to 60 m), surfing or high-impact water use, DJI recommends the Osmo Action 60m Waterproof Case.[1]
What memory card does it need?
A microSD card rated UHS-I Speed Grade 3, up to 512 GB. DJI publishes a list of recommended cards in the specifications.[2]
Can I connect a wireless microphone?
Yes. One DJI Mic Mini transmitter can connect directly to the Osmo Action 4 over Bluetooth, without a receiver.[4]
